Sony Group Corp (6758.T) announced on Wednesday the debut of a new range of headphones and monitors aimed at the booming PC videogame sector, as the Japanese conglomerate expands its focus beyond its core PlayStation console gaming audience.
Sony, whose PlayStation 5 platform has been hampered by supply chain issues, announced last month a shift toward publishing more titles on PC and mobile devices as subscription services and technological developments make gaming more accessible to a wider audience.
The Inzone line, developed by a unit outside of Sony’s main gaming business, aims to capitalize on Sony’s audio and display technology, areas where Sony is seen as maintaining a competitive advantage even as the company has transformed itself into an entertainment behemoth spanning movies, music, and games.
Its headphones provide sound that assists players in locating adversaries in-game, with a tethered model costing $99.99 in the US and a wireless, noise-canceling model costing $299.99. Inzone monitors, which promise sharp graphics and a fast refresh rate, start at $529.99 and go up to $899.99 for a 4K version.
The gear is designed in the same style as the PlayStation 5 line and is compatible with the system.
