Dyson delivers virtual reality in new twist to home shopping

Customers will be able to test Dyson hairdryers, straighteners, and stylers from the comfort of their own homes using virtual reality. Dyson is widely known for its breakthrough bagless vacuum cleaners.

The Dyson Demo VR was created using the same visualization and simulation software that Dyson engineers use to prototype, test, and develop new products and software.

Virtual reality, according to James Dyson, the company’s founder and chief engineer, is a means to improve people’s comprehension of Dyson’s goods.

“We have been harnessing powerful virtual reality technologies to engineer new products in our labs for many years, now we are applying those same technologies to re-invent how people explore our products,” he said.

Consumer goods companies are experimenting with new online and virtual ways to communicate with customers in preparation for the establishment of the metaverse, a virtual reality idea that gained popular attention last month when Facebook (FB.O) rebranded itself as “Meta.”

Dyson said in a statement that its virtual-reality showroom was an extension of selling directly to consumers through its 318 stores and online and that it will be available starting Friday through VR headset Oculus’ headset store.

Sean Newmarch, Dyson Demo VR’s e-commerce director, stated that demonstration was a crucial element of displaying how things functioned and that the Dyson Demo VR would eventually include a fully integrated e-commerce solution as well as the option to speak with a real salesman.

Newmarch claimed it will begin with Dyson’s hair care products, followed by a floor care line.
