On Tuesday, Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) said that its shareholders had approved a proposal by Arjuna Capital, which requested a report from the software company on the effectiveness of its policies to combat sexual harassment in the workplace.
According to Microsoft, around 80% of the votes cast at the company’s annual meeting were in favor of issuing such a report.
Arjuna Capital, based in Boston, is a frequent filer of shareholder resolutions urging firms to make reforms such as publishing more data on pay equity.
Microsoft already provides annual data on the number of sexual harassment complaints received and the outcomes of the investigations into them with its employees. It has now decided to make that information public.
The vote comes as large mutual fund firms increasingly support investor challenges to companies on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, and as employees of large tech firms organize walkouts in protest of how they handle sexual harassment accusations.
Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) announced last month that support for a shareholder resolution on how it handles arbitration to settle workplace harassment and discrimination allegations increased to 46% of votes cast at its annual meeting, up from 27% in 2020.
