According to the Information, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has suggested that Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) be sued over privacy and data security breaches in the e-commerce giant’s home security arm, Ring, earlier this year.
Following settlement negotiations with Amazon, FTC Chair Lina Khan moved to suspend the recommendation, according to the report, which cites people familiar with the subject.
Reuters reached out to Amazon and the FTC for comment, but neither responded right away. Khan, an antitrust expert who studies Big Tech’s massive market strength, has been a vociferous opponent of Amazon.
As part of a series of ongoing investigations into Big Tech, the FTC is currently investigating Amazon. It’s also looking into the company’s planned acquisition of MGM Studios in the United States.
