Google Cloud, Snap, Spotify back up after brief outage

After a brief global outage on Tuesday, multiple social media apps such as Snapchat (SNAP.N), Spotify (SPOT.N), and Alphabet’s (GOOGL.O) Google Cloud appeared to be coming back online.

Google said problems with its Cloud Networking service, which includes clients such as Etsy, Spotify, and Snap Inc, were partially rectified shortly after hundreds of users reported them to outage tracking website downdetector.com.

The Google Cloud dashboard previously indicated that services such as cloud developer tools, cloud consoles, and cloud engines were experiencing issues. After more than 50,000 users reported troubles on the down detector, Spotify claimed it was aware of “some issues right now and are checking them,” but the issues have already been rectified, according to the website.

“Many Snapchatters are having trouble using the app. Hang tight, we’re working on a fix. In the meantime, we recommend staying logged in,” Snapchat support said earlier in a tweet.

Fastly (FSLY.N), the cloud company behind a major global internet outage in June, said it was seeing increased errors with origins in a “common cloud provider, unrelated to Fastly’s an edge cloud platform.”

The brief outage on Tuesday follows a six-hour outage last month that rocked Meta Platforms Inc (FB.O), formerly known as Facebook, due to improper router configuration adjustments.

Only Downdetector collects status updates from a variety of sources, including user-submitted mistakes on its platform, to track outages. It’s possible that a higher number of people were affected by the outage.
