Facebook offers remedies to address EU concerns about customer deal

According to a European Commission document, Facebook (FB.O) has offered remedies in an attempt to obtain EU antitrust approval for its acquisition of Customer, a customer service startup based in the United States.

On Wednesday, Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms, submitted its package. The EU competition enforcer has extended its decision due to January 28 after failing to give specifics of the remedies in accordance with its rules. Before deciding whether to accept the offer or demand more, it is expected to seek input from competitors and customers.

The Commission has stated that the merger could harm competition and strengthen the clout of the US social media business in online advertising. The deal has received unequivocal approval from regulators in the United Kingdom and Australia.
