Elon Musk said Tesla will collaborate with international regulators on data security

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), said at an industry event in China on Friday that the company will work with worldwide regulators to secure data protection. Tesla, which builds cars in Shanghai for the Chinese market, has come under fire in China this year for how it stores and handles consumer data.

Cars are becoming increasingly equipped with sensors and cameras to aid drivers, but the data generated by such technology has sparked concerns about privacy and security.

“With the rapid growth of autonomous driving technologies, data security of vehicles is drawing more public concerns than ever before,” Musk told the World New Energy Vehicle Congress on the southern Chinese island of Hainan via video link.

Due to security worries about vehicle cameras, employees at several Chinese government offices were warned not to park their Tesla cars inside government grounds. Tesla later said that it has set up a local data storage facility in China.
