Due to a global chip scarcity, Maserati has postponed the launch of its new Grecale SUV until the spring of 2022, from November this year.
The luxury brand, which is owned by Stellantis (STLA.MI), made the decision as a global shortage of semiconductors compels automakers to pause or stop manufacturing. Maserati stated that its decision was based on continued parts supply problems.
“In particular, due to a scarcity of semiconductors, production volumes would not adequately meet expected global demand,” Maserati said in a statement.
The Grecale, which will be staged in Cassino, central Italy, was supposed to have a world premiere on Nov. 16.
Stellantis also stated this month that the Tonale, the next Alfa Romeo SUV, will be unveiled next March, rather than the end of this year as previously planned. find out more
Due to a chip shortage, Stellantis, which was founded this year through the merging of Fiat Chrysler and PSA, has halted production at various locations, notably in Europe and Canada.The impact of a semiconductor scarcity on Stellantis’ Italian production this year will be worse and persist longer than the devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to the FIM-CISL union.
