A New Twist in the Tale of Wireless Technology

Many different traits have tried to define human beings over the years, and yet none could ever come closer than our tendency to pursue growth under all situations. This tendency, in particular, has brought the world some huge milestones, with technology emerging as quite a major member of the stated group. The reason why we hold technology in such an esteemed regard is, by and large, predicated upon its skill-set, which guided us towards a reality that nobody could have ever imagined otherwise. Nevertheless, if we look beyond the surface for one hot second, it will become abundantly clear how the whole runner was also very much inspired from the way we applied those skills across a real world environment. The latter component, in fact, did a lot to give the creation a spectrum-wide presence, and as a result, initiated a full-blown tech revolution. Of course, the next thing this revolution did was to scale up the human experience through some outright unique avenues, but even after achieving a feat so notable, technology will somehow continue to bring forth the right goods. The same has turned more and more evident in recent times, and assuming one new development ends up with the desired impact, it will only put that trend on a higher pedestal moving forward.

Lumen Technologies, a company that aids business growth by connecting people, data, and applications, has officially announced the launch of a custom-built Wi-Fi 7 capable device. According to certain reports, the stated device comes decked up with the means to deliver faster speeds and an improved Wi-Fi experience for its Quantum Fiber multi-gig customers, especially when compared to Wi-Fi 6/6E devices. Talk about the development on a slightly deeper level, though, it brings to the fore a superior brand of coverage, meaning one single device can literally cover up to 90% of a home based on square footprint. This automatically cuts back on the need for deploying extra nodes. Next up, it puts on the table multi-user capability, a capability which is further joined by support for gigabit bandwidth demands. Given the latter feature, the device allows 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz radios to work together and achieve high-speed data transmission, and at the same time, minimize the need for running ethernet cable throughout a house. We referred to the speed element, the new Wi-Fi 7 presents less than 3 milliseconds of latency. Making the proposition even more attractive is a fact that it offers seamless integration with Quantum Fiber’s multi-gig network at symmetrical speeds up to 8 Gbps. Another detail worth a mention is rooted in the system’s ability to accommodate bandwidth-intensive applications like 8K video streaming, cloud gaming, virtual reality, and large multimedia file transfers. However, that’s not the only area where we can expect the device to put up a high performance, as it also has a built-in GPS chip, which should notably scale up 6GHz range performance to better match the upcoming FCC specifications. Moving on, Lumen’s latest brainchild also boasts a cloud-based digital twin. This translates to how it is effectively built on carrier grade Open WRT standard with Easy Mesh & prplMesh. In case that’s still not enough, the stated feature even lets you conduct real time orchestration and advanced level of device management.

“Our Wi-Fi 7 capable device is a game-changer in wireless technology, providing higher speeds, lower latency, and better home coverage than Wi-Fi 6/6E devices so our Quantum Fiber customers can make the most of every gigabit,” said Maxine Moreau, President of Mass Markets at Lumen Technologies. “Lumen took a significant leap in improving home and business Wi-Fi when we internally developed this Wi-Fi 7 capable device. We’re proud of this accomplishment and are ready to install these devices in customer homes and offices. We believe everyone deserves a fast, secure, high-performing Wi-Fi experience.”

Rounding up the highlights is a top-notch customer experience. As the Wi-Fi 7 device is a part of Quantum Fiber’s 360 Wi-Fi capabilities, it can be accessed and controlled directly from the Quantum Fiber app. This app, on its part, will unlock advanced parental controls, Wi-Fi performance diagnostics, and include a best-in-class security suite.

Lumen partnered with AXON Networks, a global provider of SDN firmware solutions and the developer of Quantum Fiber’s Carrier Grade Wi-Fi 7 devices, to put-together its own take on the technology.

“AXON Networks is proud to partner with Lumen on this technological accomplishment,” said Martin Manniche, CEO of AXON Networks. “Our Wi-Fi 7 capable devices support Standard Power with AFC and GPS, enabling new use cases indoors and outdoors. Our AXON Orchestrator supports end-to-end Real Time Orchestration with Digital Twin support that is fully cloud-enabled. By leveraging our innovative technology, this clearly sets Lumen apart from other operators.”

Founded in 1930, Lumen Technologies has risen up using its ability to leverage the strength of a comprehensive network. The company is well-equipped to handle everything from metro connectivity and long-haul data transport to edge cloud, security, and managed service capabilities. Lumen’s excellence in what it does can also be understood once you consider that it presently has more than 60 planned edge node metro locations, projects that will join its existing assortment of over 150K on-net fiber locations. Aiding the company’s case even further is a clientele which includes the likes of Zoom, the South Dakota state, Pima County, multiple NFL teams in Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings, and many more.
