Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being more widely used in everyday computer systems, putting us on a path where the computer takes judgments and we, the humans, must live with the results. In any case, there’s a lot of talk these days about how AI systems should be set up to give explanations for whatever they’re doing. Explainable AI (XAI) is quickly gaining traction as a hot issue. People who use AI systems will almost certainly expect and possibly demand an explanation. Given the fast growing number of AI systems, a machine-produced explanation of what the AI has done or is doing will be in high demand.
What are the most promising fields or applications for XAI? Autonomous vehicles are one such research topic (AVs). With the goal of attaining the tagline “mobility for all,” we will gradually develop autonomous means of transportation. Vehicles such as self-driving cars, self-driving trucks, self-driving motorcycles, self-driving submarines, self-driving drones, and self-driving planes will be available.
At Levels 4 and 5, actual self-driving vehicles will not have a human driver involved in the driving duty. The folks on board will all be passengers, while XAI will be in charge of driving.
