The South African labor administration announced that it has filed court documents against Huawei Technologies’ local subsidiary for alleged employment regulation violations.
According to a statement released by the South African department on Friday, Huawei employed about 90% foreign nationals, as opposed to the 40% allowed by regulations.
Huawei’s South Africa business spokesperson stated that the company would respond as quickly as possible.
According to the labor department, Huawei was granted a permit in accordance with the Immigration Regulations, which required the firm to employ 60% South Africans and 40% foreign nationals, but it had been employing far more than that and planned to do so even more.
“The Department has found that its cause of action is clear and that all infractions have occurred,” the statement added.
This is the first legal action taken by the South African government against the Chinese computer giant.
The labor department, on the other hand, had previously taken action against a smaller Chinese firm in Johannesburg over allegations of bad working conditions and human trafficking at its plant. That case was still pending in the courts.
