Instagram, which Meta owns, is launching a new service that will allow users to purchase products directly through direct messaging. On Monday, Meta disclosed that the new payments capability would allow users to buy from small businesses through direct talks.
According to the company’s blog post, users will never have to leave the app or even a chat to make an Instagram purchase. Users must currently leave the post, send a message to a company inquiring about a product for purchase, and then click on the link provided to complete the transaction. Using the new functionality, users can rapidly discuss customizations and place orders.
Additionally, tracking the order in the same chat thread makes it simple to ask company owners follow-up questions. Users will be able to pay with Meta Pay as well.
This comes after the launch of Instagram’s new creator-focused features. The changes are part of Instagram’s goal to become the “best online arena for creators to make a living.” The company has added subscriber discussions, reels, postings, and a subscriber home. Under this option, users can filter out posts that are only accessible to them.
This new tool lets small business owners connect with clients in real-time to answer questions and confirm transaction details. They can submit a payment request that includes an item description and a price and then seeks and collect payment. According to the corporation, when businesses are ready to launch their digital storefront, they can use Shops on Instagram and Facebook.
