An Engineering Innovation Committed to Simplify AI Infrastructure Management

Pulumi, with over 3,700 customers, including Snowflake, Nvidia, and the BMW Group, has officially announced the launch of Pulumi Neo, which happens to be industry’s first platform engineering AI agent geared towards managing infrastructure on any cloud, be it public, private, or hybrid, all of it governed by enterprise-grade controls.

According to certain reports, Neo arrives on the scene bearing an ability to build on Pulumi’s proven cloud engineering platform and flagship infrastructure as code (IaC) technology, something which really goes the distance to support thousands of cloud providers, and at the same time, power more than one million downloads per week.

To understand the significance of such a development, we must take into account how, going by Garnter’s word, 80 percent of large software engineering organizations will establish platform engineering teams to accelerate application delivery with greater confidence, up from 45 percent in 2022.

Amidst that transformation, Neo brings forth a mechanism which can automate infrastructure tasks end-to-end with enterprise governance. More on the same would reveal how it can seamlessly understand dependencies, execute changes, monitors outcomes, and maintain compliance throughout the entire infrastructure lifecycle.

“Pulumi Neo addresses our biggest challenge of eliminating the infrastructure bottleneck that slows down our entire engineering organization,” said Richard Genthner, Chief Information Security Officer at Boost Insurance. “To get to market faster, we require infrastructure intelligence that understands our environment, respects our guardrails, and keeps humans in the loop so we can move faster, safely.”

Talk about the whole value proposition on a slightly deeper level, we begin the promise of a fully agentic workflow. This translates to a launch for users to launch short- or long-running tasks with approvals, interactive guidance, and complete task history.

Next up, there is a deep IaC foundation coming into play. The said foundation helps users avail previews and history regarding every Neo takes along the way, doing so by leveraging proven patterns from thousands of providers and millions of production deployments.

“We have a high tolerance for AI capabilities and we’re actively looking for where we can integrate AI without compromising our infrastructure governance and reliability requirements,” said Jason Harris, Cloud Architecture Lead at Werner Enterprises.

Another detail worth a mention is rooted in personalized multi-cloud context, inclusive of automatic context across all cloud environments for every Pulumi supported provider. These providers presently include AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Kubernetes.

Hold on, we still have a couple of bits left to unpack, considering we haven’t yet touched upon the availability of automatic enterprise guardrails. You see, Neo is markedly designed to uphold all of your team’s governance settings, including RBAC and policy as code configurations.

We also haven’t touched upon the underlying technology’s focus on facilitating progressive autonomy, which is achieved on the back of human-in-the-loop interaction with configurable automation levels, going from fully guardrailed to fully autonomous.

Rounding up highlights would be the presence of real-world evidence, an aspect where Werner Enterprises leveraged Pulumi Neo to successfully cut down on infrastructure provisioning time from three days to four hours, while simultaneously maintaining SOC 2 compliance and enabling development teams to ship features 75 percent faster.

Apart from that, Pulumi’s latest brainchild has also been able to deliver 10x more infrastructure with existing teams and reduce policy violations by 90 percent through automated governance.

As for the availability, Pulumi Neo is currently available in Pulumi’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, integrating with Cognition Windsurf and Devin, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, and other AI coding assistants. This makes it possible users to jump between Pulumi Cloud and their favorite tools for various agentic tasks.

“In under a year, AI has completely reshaped how we build applications. With Pulumi Neo, platform engineering is now catching up,” said Joe Duffy, Founder and CEO of Pulumi. “Neo builds on Pulumi’s proven product foundation to ensure reliability and safety, and combines the best frontier models with cloud context, tools, and workflows, enabling it to automate entire mission-critical tasks. Things that used to take weeks can now confidently be done in minutes.”.
